Did you know that there are several spectacular walks and waterfalls all located with in 10km of Lorne? Lorne is surrounded by the The Otway National Park, a beautiful native forest.
There are walks and waterfalls to suit most ages and abilities with a variety of duration and difficulty.
If you are looking to get the kids out and about into nature, away from the TV and iPad, Sheoak falls is located only a 5 minute drive down the Great Ocean Road from Lorne and is a great morning or afternoon activity. Once you have parked the car there is a short 900m walk to the base of Sheoak falls, relatively easy, our 4 years old made it there and back and loved it!
For the more experienced walker there is Erskine Falls, Lorne’s most well known waterfall. It is a 7.5km walk (one way) it is a strenuous walk for experienced walkers and not to be walked when water levels are high. Erskine Falls is a 10 to 15 minute drive from Lorne Town Centre. There is a car park at the top and it’s a walk of about half a kilometre (mostly stairs) to the upper viewing area. You can venture further down the stairs to the base of the fall to the lower viewing area. From memory it’s about 300 steps from the top to the bottom, it’s a steep decent down the stairs, a good leg workout for sure going back up, certainly worth it! As mentioned above the more experienced walkers can follow the river all the way back to Lorne!
When you arrive to Lorne, visit the Lorne Information Centre for maps and all the information you need to know about Lorne's many beautiful walks and waterfalls before you head out into the Otway’s.
