Lorne really is the perfect place to relax and unwind in nature.
It is beautifully nestled between the beach and the Otways, so it really does have it all!
We thought we would take this opportunity to tell you some of the reasons why we love Lorne…
ADVENTURE:
If you like adrenaline fuelled fun, then we highly recommend you visit Live Wire Park. It is located only 1kms from the main street of Lorne, in a stunning bush setting amongst the Blue Gums.
Live Wire Park features a canopy circuit walk, 2 large rope courses and has Australia’s most extreme zip line. There are rope circuits to suit all ages and abilities, so there really is something for everyone!
Live Wire also features 5 trampoline zones, which are suspended 4 metres off the ground. How fun does that sound!
SURFING:
If heights aren’t your thing, then Lorne Point, Main beach, Cathedral Rock and Fairhaven are some great spots to surf.
If you’re not an experienced surfer, then why not book ahead and arrange a surf lesson with “Go ride a wave”. Or otherwise, you can hire a surfboard or paddle board from HAH (Health and Hire café) located right on the main beach. Do yourself a favour and order one of HAH’s healthy smoothies and a toasties to re-fuel afterwards!
BUSHWALKING:
Bush walking is a favourite past time for many people visiting Lorne. There are over 30 coastal and bush walks within the Otway region, so we recommend you visit the Lorne Info Centre to grab some trail maps before you head out to explore.
If you don’t feel like travelling too far, then there is plenty to explore within 10kms of Lorne. Here are some of our favourites:
Erskine Falls
Phantom Falls
Upper and Lower Kalimna Falls
Sheoak Falls
Henderson Falls
Cumberland Falls
RELAXATION:
If relaxing is more your vibe, then Endota Spa has you covered.
Book yourself in for one of their organic facials or enjoy one of their signature massages and feel the stress simply melt away.
Coastal Massage Therapies is a wonderful option for people needing relief from pain and stress. Brie specialises in treatments to heal your mind and body, using Holistic Massage therapies.
ART:
Qdos Fine Arts is located only 1.3kms from Lorne’s main street. As soon as you arrive you will see sculptures on display. Spend some time walking around admiring the sculptures, before heading indoors to the Curated Art gallery. The art on display is a tight collection of fine artists. Qdos hosts 10 solo exhibitions each year, so there is always something new on display each time you visit.
Make sure you take your time and enjoy the delicious seasonal shared plates and treats on offer at their café there as well.
In the Skies Art and Gallery is located on the main street in Lorne. It is owned and operated by a lovely local family, who are passionate about Art, Music and Community.
Inside the gallery you will see beautiful paintings for sale, as well as records, ceramics and art supplies. In the skies regularly host events that bring the community together for opening exhibitions of artists and music.
In the skies have also created a funky little Back gallery and bar, which is a hidden gem down the laneway, beside the gallery. It is open Saturdays 2pm – 10pm and with its Fitzroy vibes, is quickly becoming a favourite hangout for locals and visitors alike. If your feeling hungry, Pizza Pizza will deliver straight to your table.
WINE & DINE:
Here are a few of our favourites…
Tottis:
Lorne has been lucky enough to have the famous Sydney restaurant, “Totti’s” open up at the Lorne Hotel.
Totti’s is a casual Italian eatery that will delight your taste buds!
The décor is very 70’s inspired, giving it a super cool vibe. The menu is made for sharing, so it’s the perfect place to enjoy delicious food with your family and friends. Lorne is the only “Totti’s” to have a bar, making it the ideal place to sit and relax before or after your meal.
Ipsos:
Ipsos is a Lorne Institution; it has been a favourite place to wine and dine since it opened in 2015.
It is known for its authentic, seasonal and fresh Greek food, fun atmosphere and excellent service.
I highly recommend their signature slow cooked lamb, which is designed to be shared with others.
Make sure you book ahead to secure a spot!
Little Picket @ the Bowling Club
The chef behind Little Picket is Jo Barrett. The chef grows a lot of the produce used in the menu, at a nearby farm and also sources veggies at the local Community Garden.
The menu is seasonal, fresh, creative yet comforting. Its open for Dinner Friday & Saturday, plus lunch on Sundays.
Raas Leela Lorne
Raas Leela describe their food as “A Modern Expression of Authentic Indian Cuisine”.
If you love Indian food, then Raas Leela will not disappoint. Their dishes are mouthwatering and flavoursome. Plus, the bar has a great selection of wines and cocktails.
If eating in is more your style, then they have a great take away menu as well.
Pizza Pizza
Everyone loves Pizza Pizza!
The vibe is great, and the pizzas are delicious!
You can choose to eat in their cosy shop front, or sat the tables on the street, otherwise take away is a great option too.
We hope we have given you some ideas for your next escape in Lorne!
